Digging Up Your Digs

500 years from now, an archaeologist accidentally stumbles on the ruins of your home, long buried underground. What will she learn about early-21st-century humans by going through (what remains of) your stuff?

500 years from now an archaeologist stands over the remains of my home. He observes the preserved artifacts with a puzzling look.

The remnants of my crockery are confusing to him, he cannot fathom why a person would require such items, all food and beverages are ingested via a single tablet in his advanced civilization.

He unearths the battered shell of an iPhone, a device which was once considered a technological breakthrough seems flimsy and primitive to him. Communication devices are much more compact in this Utopian future.

Many of the items he discovers are considered ‘vintage’ and will fetch a pretty penny when he sells them to the numerous antique dealers.

As he continues his dig he wonders about the people who lived here and the lives they led. He thinks about how they may have survived with such basic tools and for a fleeting moments he admires their determination to advance their society.
